AC & DC UPS for Croydon Tramlink

The line is largely on a east-west axis through a central loop around Croydon and provides very useful, environmentally friendly, modern public transport.

It is the most reliable public transport service in the UK linking Wimbledon in the west with Beckenham/ New Addington in the east via Croydon town centre.

Work started in January 1997 and the first route was officially opened in May 2000.

In 2001, Rittal who were a sub contractor to Thales Information Systems (formally known as Syseca) for the Croydon Tramlink awarded Harland Simon UPS Ltd. the contract to supply a number of AC and DC UPS to support the control, communications and signalling equipment.

During 2001 we provided a complete standby power solution for the tram stops supplying 45 x 2 kVA AC UPS in custom built connection modules with 10 year design life batteries followed in 2002 with a 20 kVA AC UPS for the main control centre and then in 2003 by 5 x F-Cab DC UPS and battery chargers.

"We met the challenge to fit a rugged UPS and batteries into the tramstop cabinets with some clever design which 12 years later are still supporting a vital lifeline for the Croydon and South London area.", Andy Parfitt, Sales Director HSUPS
